At ICA, we understand that every student is unique—and so are their behavioral and learning needs. Our Behavioral Assessments service is designed to identify the underlying causes of challenging behaviors and provide actionable, evidence-based strategies to support positive behavioral change in the classroom setting. Our team of highly qualified professionals—each holding a Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field—specializes in delivering comprehensive behavioral assessments tailored to the needs of school districts and their students.

Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA)

Our assessment process begins with the completion of a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) to determine the “why” behind interfering or maladaptive behaviors. Through careful observation, data analysis, and collaboration with school staff, we identify the function of the behavior, whether it’s to gain attention, escape demands, access tangibles, or self-stimulate. Based on our findings, we:
  • Develop individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) that prioritize positive reinforcement and the teaching of functional replacement behaviors.
  • Design and implement data collection systems to monitor progress.
  • Create visual supports and behavior tracking tools to aid in consistency across environments.
  • Provide ongoing training and coaching for school personnel to ensure that interventions are implemented effectively and with fidelity.
  • Offer continued oversight and support, including performance feedback and program adjustments as needed.

Skill-Based Assessments and Goal Development

In addition to addressing challenging behaviors, we utilize criterion-based assessments to help teams identify current skill levels and set meaningful, individualized goals for skill acquisition. Commonly used assessments in our practice include:
  • ABLLS (Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills)
  • VB-MAPP (Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program)
  • Essentials for Living
These tools allow us to assess critical areas such as communication, daily living, social skills, and academic readiness. From there, we collaborate with IEP teams and instructional staff to develop targeted skill-building programs that align with district goals and state standards.
